The 2013 high school volleyball season is underway and coach Shelbi Pool has a young team with growing potential. Shelby Lolley will assist in the development of the young squad as she returns as assistant coach again this year.
“This season we are looking to fill a lot of spots with some young faces,” said coach Pool. The Tigers are led by two seniors, Dusti Good Shield and Casey Fairbanks and have a total of eighteen girls on the team. “Dusti will be a good all around player for us and has some experience that she brings with her this year. We are trying Casey out in a position that she hasn’t played since Middle school and trying her as our setter this year.”
Several underclassman and juniors Rachel Astleford and Emma Twite are expected to be a big part of this year’s team. “We have Julia (LeBoeuf), Lizzy (Cameron), Mariah Marshall and Rachel Astleford coming up and seeing some quality varsity time this year. Emma Twite and Courtney Charging Hawk will be stepping up and leading us defensively this year. I look to Morgan Taft to see some varsity time also.”
“It should be a great year and I think as our young girls get some experience in, by the end of the season we will be competitors for that district title.”
The Tigers played their first game Tuesday night against Lyman and will compete Thursday at New Underwood.
