The State Hershey Track Meet was held June 22 in Belle Fourche. Several locals competed and though a handful of races were cancelled late in the day because of the weather, it was a first-rate day of competition for athletes across the state.
Freddie Leader Charge was a competitor in the boys ages 9-10 division. He placed 6th in both the standing long jump and the 200 meter dash. He recorded a jump of 5 foot, 11.5 inches in the long jump and had a 34.28 in the finals of the 200 (33.49 in the prelims). Freddie was 11th in the 100m dash with a 16.22.
Russell Leader Charge, competing in the 13-14 boys division, had a pair of 3rd place finishes. He was 3rd in the 100m dash with a 13.15 and had 26.84 in the 200 (26.31 in prelims), good for 3rd. In the long jump, Russell placed 4th with an 8-02.00.
Competing in the girls 13-14 division was Nellie Leader Charge. She placed 5th in the one mile run with a 6:44.46 and was 9th in the 800m run with a 3:04.84. Nellie was 16th in the standing long jump, recording a 6-04.00.
Jack Peters was on the 4x100 relay team from Winner that placed 5th in the 9-10 boys division. They had a time of 1:16.53. He was 22nd, individually, with a 9.10 in the 50m dash.
Trevor Peters placed 7th, along with Winner teammates in the 11-12 boys 4x100m relay. They finished the event with a time of 1:08.49. He also competed in the 100m dash and was 26th with a 16.54.
